FOS of CannonDesign performed a comprehensive facility condition assessment (FCA) of the historic campus structures, interior spaces, building envelopes, universal design compliance criteria, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, fire detection systems, and limited site elements at Knox College. The 83,000 sf assessment provided all information the college needed to plan for fundraising to support design and construction projects over the next five to ten years. The resulting capital improvement program was phased to include all work identified in the final facility assessment and accessibility report as well as other scopes of work identified by Knox College during the schematic design phase. FOS then executed the initial phase of a four-phase design and construction project. The construction also put in place the necessary infrastructure to conduct the next three phases, which include heating and ventilation improvements, remaining washroom renovations, modernization of electrical systems, window replacements, repairs to large original lead-glass windows, and reconstruction of exterior detailing and courtyard colonnade structure.

The FOS team helped us to advance our strategic planning process on multiple levels. FOS helped us to assess the viability of staying in our current location, including whether or not we were able to allocate the required capital resources. This level of data and planning helped us make this renewal project a reality.
