University of Alabama

The FOS team provided a cross-sectional, multi-department pilot ADA assessment on six assets of the University’s choosing at the Tuscaloosa campus. The assessment included residence life assets, academic assets, athletics, support buildings and parking. This approach allowed all of the major departments on campus to review and collaborate on collection criteria, granularity, and the necessary level of detail that satisfied all departments ahead of a campus-wide assessment.

The assessment was performed in accordance with DOJ guidelines for ADA compliance under the 2010 ADA standards. The assessment included field measurement, code review and analysis and detailed recommendations for corrections. In many cases more that one option for correction was proposed and included detailed line item cost estimates. All cost estimates were generated by our in-house cost estimating team with local construction and bidding knowledge. Our team does not rely on generic published cost data books.

The Phase I work informed the scope of work for the Phase II Assessment of the entire campus. Phase II has not yet begun, but is anticipated to begin in mid-2022.
