Westfield State University

Westfield State University (WSU) is a public university in Westfield, MA with a welcoming community that focuses on student engagement and success in western Massachusetts.

WSU hired FOS to conduct a facility condition assessment (FCA) to help determine a framework for informed, data-driven building infrastructure decision making. The scope of this project includes 21 academic buildings and 11 residence life buildings, comprising over 1.6 million square feet on the university’s campus in Westfield, MA.

FOS is meeting that need through a facility condition assessment at a 3/5 Hybrid UniFormat Level with a 10-year assessment scope window. This assessment level is typically used for deferred maintenance and capital renewal planning at the project level. Using this approach, we are delivering recommendations and cost estimates for asset deficiencies and renewal/replacement needs at the individual major system and/or component level as necessary. All deficient systems and components will be categorized, prioritized, and assigned renewal and replacement cost estimates. In addition to these factors, risk and impact of failure for each deficiency will be identified.

All data collected during this FCA will be provided to the University in an Excel file that can be easily sorted, analyzed, maintained, updated, and uploaded into computerized management systems.

This project is ongoing as of 2022.
